I might start looking for a Sport Trac after I finish college. I have a few questions about them.

1. Are manuals rare?
2. What about 2wd manuals?
3. Am I right if I say that the 2wd has a torsion bar system like the Edge? Meaning it can be lifted with Fabtech's Edge lift spindles?
4. How's real world gas mileage on these things?

Manuals are non-existent.
2wds are rare (at least in my area)
I think they all had the t-bar suspension
Real world gas mileage would probably be mid teens to low twenties, comparable to an Explorer.

They did come with the option for a manual though? I assume they did. Probaly almost nobody bought one with a manual though right?

No, by "non-existent" I mean it was never ever ever even once produced with a manual transmission. It just wasn't an option on any Explorer after 2000.

If you want a Sport Trac with a manual trans, you are gonna have to go buy one with an auto and make it into what you want.

No, Sport Tracs were available with manuals right from the factory. They're really rare though.

there are manual trans sport-tracs, ive seen 2 here and like another 2 on ebay. they are veryr are and mostly on the 1st gens too

I guess I shouldn't get my hopes up for a factory manual. I'll just have to convert it then after I get one. :icon_welder:

Well I won't argue with people who have seen them in person. I've been wrong before.

Looking at the shop manual there is a procedure for clutch replacement, so I guess there were some made.

MP3, you are still probably gonna be better off to buy an auto and swap it. If you actually hold out for a manual one, you are probably gonna be waiting for a very long time.

That's what I figured. Sad truth but a truth. Oh well.

Yup, rare as hens teeth, but they are out there.

Any reason why you're set on a 2wd?

mileage is rated at 16 in city and 20 on highway, so kinda like the Explorer.
i wouldnt mind having low mpg for driving a nice truck like that, even for the right Ranger i would tolerate that mileage too(ext cab 4wd 5 spd)

1. Yes. Most of the manuals were '01-'03 models, I know by the time I got my '05 (new) you could only get a manual on a 2wd base model and only on a fleet order. '07+ were automatics only (there was no '06 model)
2. Yup, they are rare too.
3. Correct, although I am told you have to swap to Ranger brake rotors. Then you're still looking at either new rear springs or a SOA conversion to lift the rear because Explorers are sprung-under. Lift shackles will get you 1.5".
4. Roughly 14 city and 18-20 highway. I get 22 if I keep the cruise on 65 mph and the road is level but I have a Gibson exhaust on it.

Living in WI, a 2wd will be a rare find if you can find one at all. I found a lot of them on eBay when I was looking, most of the less expensive ones were 2wd and in the South. I'm on my second one, they're great vehicles.
