hey i have a 1995 franger 4cyl 5 speed 4x4 and i seem to be having a problem and im not in anyway shape or form a gear head.. but heres the problem.. the other day while driving i came to a stop went to continue driving and my truck acted like i was out of gas spitting and spuddering.. i drove it another 4 miles like that top speed or maybe 40mph.. i was told it was more the likley a fuel filter problem... lastnight i put new fuel filter on and it ran like a raped ape for about 11 miles and started to spit and spudder again.. like i said im not gear head so i have no idea where to begin.. can anyone give me some ideas?

rust or dirt in tank

change your filter AGAIN drop your tank and clean it:icon_welder:.IMO

I'm w/ Chilsam. Makes me wonder if you got a bad tank of gas. Or many bad tanks for that matter. Sounds like you have a bunch of sediment in your tank and the fuel pump is sucking it through and clogging your filter.

Your problem sounds similar to a problem I had last year that has recently reappeared. A year ago I posted on the problem I had:

My problem was similar to yours in that it continued after changing the fuel filter (and adding Sea Foam), but it cleared up after a few weeks. Almost 30 years ago, I filled my fuel tank while a tanker was delivering fuel to the gas station. Within a week my fuel filter clogged and I had to have the carburetor rebuilt. I don't think particulate matter can clear from a fuel system the way moisture can, and if you are alternating between stumbling and full power, water is probably involved. As a worst case you might have water and sediment. Just my opinion.

yeah i changed my filter i was told it could be my coil packs as well.. changed them and pulled my sending unit and pump.. pump was clogged so i changed that.. ran fine up untill 2 days ago.. then it started to mess up again.. this time it will start run up to 2k rpm and cut out like its not getting gas.. so i pulled the filter that was clean pulled the pump and sending unit nothing clogged in pump this time and pump was getting power to it.. i have no idea what the deal is with it.. any suggestions? have been told it could be a few things like a clogged cat or somthing along that line..

Have you scanned the OBD system for codes? I don't know if the '95 ranger has OBD-I or OBD-II. 1996 was the mandated year for all vehicles to have OBD-II.

Sounds like you got bad gas somewhere along the line and your whole fuel system is suspect.

When you swapped out the pump did you get rid of all the gas and wipe the tank clean?......you can test the resistance of the coil packs with a multimeter.you also can swap the coilpacks and if the truck runs different then it is a coilpack..also it could be your MAF.buy some CRC maf cleaner and follow the directions on the can

all rangers 1995 and newer are OBD-II

.if he emptied the gas tank and cleaned it out when he was swapping the pump I doubt it is still a bad gas issue........unless his injectors are screwed..but I would think he would get misfire codes and the issue would be more consistant
