spit shine polishing and cleaning the outside of your trans. housing....

The original "rant" was provided by you..."Because unlike a lot of hillbilly fawk shadetree wanna be's out there nowadays...etc. etc." I was defending those of us who are a little more practical and efficient.

To your point about trim on houses and paint on cars, yes...a good paint job and properly installed trim adds to the appeal and appearance, TO EACH HIS OWN, some people attach more importance to that then others, and that's fine. I would liken polishing a transmission to painting the wall cavities of aforementioned trimmed out house before installing insulation and sheet rock. It is something that wont be seen, however if that floats your boat, FINE. I take pride in efficiency and practicality, you take pride in meticulous perfection...thats great....but when you look down your nose and bash, expect a reply.

I'm with the "paint it" crowd even though NOBODY i ever going to see
my transmission unless I really screw up.

Like I said if it's CLEAN it's a hell of a lot easier to spot a leak

I had to explain to a friend who was a certified Aircraft A&P
mechanic why stuff like landing gear struts and flap actuator
gearboxes were painted gloss white.

It's simply because if the housing cracks it's going to be as
visible as Brittney's crack usually is to the paparratzi...

You are GONNA see that crack much more easily.

I paint my aluminum transmission cases, T-case case segments
and rear axles for the same reason.....

once its painted nice, it will only take a quick pressure wash to get back looking like new. i wire tooth brushed ever nook and cranny on my carb because i know im going to spend a lot of time working on it.

Dont get me wrong, I have also put a great deal of time into things like that, And I know of the pride you speak of of the older generations and of the pride in ownership, because I cant agree more with that. I just thought it was kinda screwed up for you to come out, oh, well, everyone with there stuff unpainted is a hillbilly/redneck mouth-breathing retard. I practically restored my 89', and I keep that thing like a fire engine when I can, however I stress it's practically impossible to restore a DD. With all of the time I have as well as the work, daily driving an 89' in 09' and beyond, it will only have a finite number of days left. And godforbid the day I junk it or its sold, many years and miles from now, it wont make much sence for it to go with a perfectly pretty tranny....definitely give everyone something to talk about at the yard though. lol.

I'm just wondering will the paint add another layer to help keep the heat in.
it looks very nice and it would be nice to just splash some water on it and cleans away.
