Ok, I've got a 99 3.0 ffv 4x4 5 speed 2 door supercab, and I may or may not have taken a few chunks off of my internal gears, but the ring and pinion are fine.

I'm having issues getting the big pin between the planetary gears to come out because its hitting the edge of the ring gear, I can only seem to get it about halfway out.

Hopefully someone has the experience to help me out because I need my wheels
Any ideas or thoughts are greately apprecieated

Try pushing it out from the other direction, you might have a little more clearance on the other side. You might also have a cross shaft with a flat on one side.

It seems like the way the big pin is milled, half of it has a flat side that clears the ring, but the otherside is completely round and just hits the ring gear. Its either letting me pull it half way out, or not out at all depending what direction I'm going

ok. this is a problem that many of the guys run into when they install lockers. They solve it by grinding a very small amount off the ring gear that is not part of the contact area. If you check out the section about installing a lunch-box locker, it describes the process in greater detail.

My rear end is a stock 7.5 and when I had to change the axle seals, the only way to get the cross pin out was to grind the ring gear as said above. Did this by simply taking and angle grinder to it and taking off just what I needed to get the pin out.

After that was all done, I sprayed out the diff. house with spray cleaner and then re-assembled.

Thanks,

One more question, is a ford 7.5 trak loc in say a 1995 ranger the same in a 99?
