Hi everybody,

So my 4.0 sprung a nasty fuel leak... My already low mpg is now atrocious 🙃😂😅

Please take a look at the pics to see location of leak.

My question is: what is the part/hose specifically that needs replacing? It's circled in red in the pics, I just haven't been able to determine the part number for that particular hose.

Any insight/guidance/help is appreciated.

Happy Rangin'

You should be able to pull it and tske it to your local store for replacement

Thank you for the replies, folks.

What does this job entail as far as replacement goes?

If available, would someone please hook my ranger newb ass up with a DIY link / instructions for removal of the fuel rail? I've searched, but haven't found anything conclusive.

I've found these:

https://www.ranger-forums.com/gener...uel-injector-crossover-hose-2006-4-0l-168920/ (which is very similar to my situation, but lacks repair instructions)

https://www.explorerforum.com/forums/threads/removing-intake-manifold-sohc-4-0.217080/ but the pictures are no longer there...

https://www.ranger-forums.com/gener...ny-write-ups-removing-intake-manifold-151496/ (has simple step-by-step, but isn't enough for me to fully comprehend the details)

https://www.therangerstation.com/forums/index.php?threads/4-0l-fuel-injector-removal.76240/ (which isn't detailed enough for my newb brain)

If anyone has some pics and more details that would be super helpful.

Really need to get this problem solved before rainy season kicks into gear...

Quick question: Would there be an identical part (the fuel rail & hose) on the 4.0 sohc explorers?

(There are no 4.0 rangers at my local junkyard, but a few 4.0 explorers... so hoping I could pull from an explorer instead.)

According to what I see online 2001-2005 4.0l SOHC used the same fuel rail regardless vehicle model, so Mustangs as well as Mountaineers/Explorers
Not sure what the difference would be in 2006 and up?

okay, cool. Thank you, Ron.

Thankfully I have an 05, and the models at the junkyard are pre-06.

Cheers!

Also - I'm going to pick up a Haynes manual today at Autozone (y)

Welp - the haynes manual isn't much help... it basically says "disconnect the vacuum lines and electrical connectors, remove the throttle linkage and body, remove the air tube, detach the PCV valve, detach the spark plug wires, disconnect the canister purge line, disconnect the AC line bolt... then remove the manifold bolts. It includes ONE picture of someone putting an extension down towards the manifold, but doesn't highlight or specifically illustrate where the bolts actually are, nor does it include pics for the electric connections, vacuum lines, purge valves I need to remove... What :poop:.

Anyway, I see 4 out of the 6 bolts I need to remove, where are the other two?

Pics detailing this operation would be VERY appreciated.

RonD: clearly the MVP of these forums.

Thanks for the reply Ron.

I should've been more clear: I was referring to the manifold bolts... or rather the "six nuts that secure the intake manifold."

Pics of the manual...

EDIT: okay, are these the locations of the 6 bolts I need to take out?

Okay so it seems there are actually 8 bolts... 2 more behind the manifold towards the firewall...

and it also appears there are coolant lines running to the manifold!? (the lines are directly next to the arrow on the bottom left)

I have the edge 4.0 v6 model, if that makes a difference...

There is usually coolant running thru intake manifolds especially on "V" engines to allow coolant to "crossover" to the other head to get full circulation
And upper intake may also have coolant circulation to prevent "icing" in colder weather

copy that...

Also, why is it that my intake mani looks so different from this one?

Is it just that's for the explorer, and the rangers is different?

Well haven't seen all the intakes Ford ever used on the 4.0l SOHC, so your guess is as good as mine :)
