I finally bit the bullet. Been fighting nonworking speedometer and trans issues for over a year now. it was driving me nuts. Replaced speed sensor twice and generally tore my truck apart. I brought my 96 ranger to a good mechanic and he fixed in about 15 minutes. I am speechless. It was the radio. He said the ground for the speed sensor goes to the radio harness. Some body who shall remain nameless (me) installed a new radio years ago with wire nuts which corroded so no ground. Unbelievable

Good info, never would have thought of radio harness ground

Wow...

I never would have thought the radio would be the culprit either.

Nice lesson learned though, and thanks for sharing that with us.
