I'm a new member here. I have a 2000 Ranger that's having a problem with the speedo. I think it may be the speed sensor, but I understand from searching on this list, that there are two of them. The speedo works OK till about 40 mph and then falls to zero and bumps up once in a while at faster speeds. When the speedo falls, I notice a change in the engine power.

The ABS light stays off, so I figure it's the speed sensor on the tranny. But people have suggested here that the rear axle sensor is the culprit. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The 2000 has a speed sensor in the tranny?

I'd vote for the sensor on the rear axle though it's odd the ABS isn't complaining. If I recall correctly the ABS system can be scanned for trouble codes just like the engine.
