Need some more info on the speedo wiring I have. A 99 ranger with a 96 ex5.0. My stock cluster speedometer work but I still throw a code for the speedo it's p0500 code . The 99 ranger confuses me I need a lil help. I have the evtms for both.

Anybody out there make sense of it. I think I can take one wire ( forget the color) and tap it into the ranger speedo harness. But idk where

The '96 Explorer system includes a transmission mounted VSS that generates a speed signal.

Your '99 Ranger uses the ABS system to generate the speed signal using the sensor ring in the diff.

If both systems are still functioning and broadcasting a speed signal, I'd expect some conflicts.

Perhaps the easiest solution should kill the Gray/Black wire at pin 7 on the 42 pin connector. That way, the PCM would get it's speed info from the VSS on the transmission, the rest of the truck would continue to get it's speed info from the ABS system.

I unplugged that pin from the ranger side and no change was made.

With that pin unplugged, the PCM would only flag the P0500 code if it can't get a signal from the VSS.

Could be as simple as being needing to be grounded via pin 13, Pink/Orange on the engine side of the 42pin connector, unplugged, or needing replacement.

I did that after noticing the wiring changes between years I'll check the ohms I the trans vss to make sure it's good and I go through the process of setting idle, base timing and why not. Dealing with my mustang I'm getting pretty good with the 5.0's now. I get all this done and report back. Thanks for your help WIN it greatly appreciated.
