I have a 1998 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0 Automatic....i recently noticed that the speedo stopped working and the Check Engine Light came on....so i hooked the scanner on it and it was the vehical speed sensor above the rear diff...i replaced that but i also found that someone cut the 2 wires going to it...and some1 attmpted to fix it......well i fixed it way better and now the CEL is off and the speedo works accuratly sometimes and it bounces all over going down the road....btw the truck has 210,000...HELP!
Actually... did you remove the wire wrap around the sensor and plug area?
Mine was having all sorts of problems, the speedo would cut out and the ABS would stop working. Found out there was a bunch of water in the wire wrap that was gettign into the pug or sensor some how and when the water melted after driving it would stop working itll it dried or froze again.
Well this is not my 1st rodeo in fixing truck so yes i installed it the same way it came out....i used heat shrink and then put a good layer of electrical tape over it....
No matter how many times you something you can still mess it up. but is sounds like the fix isn't the problem. Other then maybe the sensor is just ever so slightly cocked to an angle?
