Speedo Lube?

I have an intermediate noise that sure sounds like it is coming from the cable or speedometer. The needle and odo seem fine, so I am hoping that a little maintenance is all I need.

Is there a preferred lube for this?

Yah , speedo cable lube is cheap, The hard part will be getting to the speedo head

usually just a type of graphite oil lube.

Speedo cables have been around 100 years, I was wondering what the middle '80 ford used (since this is my first/only middle '80s ford product).

I did that exact google search before posting BTW, half the first few links were marked.

Never really assumed you didn't search, I just didn't know if you used auto zone or a different parts store so I didn't know what store to link.

There's nothing fancy about the mid 80's ford one. I've used the standard graphite oil lube on my b2 a few times. Buy quality stuff.. Not the cheap junk or you'll be doing it again in 1000 miles.

I was hoping that somebody has noticed what the factory used, by observation when dismantling dashes of that era.

Or, somebody knew the Ford lube part number, so that could be reverse engineered.

Worst case I am not opposed to buying a new “lifetime lubricated” from a FLAPS (I don't really have a preference). This just seem like information I could find in pages like http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/speedometer.htm

I do have a can of graphite lock lube that does wonders for car door locks, assuming it isn't known for catastrophic fire I could be tempted to try that
