speedo correction by changing gear??

I been running my truck with the speedo way off for a while and I seen an article in the tech library where you can just swap out the speedo gear after you do some calculations. Sounds pretty cheap and easy. Will this work on my 00 2wd auto 3.0?? It would be nice to actually get my speedo to read accurately.

The speedo gears are for '97 & down models.

On your '00, it's done electronically with a programmer.

Do you have to take it to the dealer to get this done? I got the Bama chips tuner and it wont let me adjust the speedo for tire size gear ratio. What kind of programmer do you mean?

Superlift sells this that'll compensate for the taller tires. I seem to recall seeing ads in magazines for like Hypertech or similar ones being able to program the speedo calibration directly though. (a dealer can do it too however).

You have any idea how much the dealer would charge to do it? That superlift calibrator is $185 dollars.

I guess I just don't understand this speedo gear deal because when I did a gear swap in my 95 the speedo was determined by the ring gear.

I forgot what it looked like now, but it bolted up to the ring gear.

I called up the dealer today. $90 to correct the speedometer. The truspeed from superlift is $180 cheapest I found it. Its says it corrects shift points, and something with ABS. I dont know about all that but I'm trying to decide which route to go.
