I have a 1998 Ford Ranger xlt and I would like to put new speakers in it. I have my mind set on what I want but I want to see what you guys think first. I am thinking of replacing the front panel speakers with pioneer 5x7's and replacing the stock rear speakers with pioneer 6x8's and hooking a small kicker amp up to the rear 6x8's. Sound good? Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have the same truck as you (if it's a reg cab) and four pioneer 4-way 6x8's all the way around and I think they sound solid. They handle the midrange very well and can play the lower tones, but don't expect to be bumping as you roll down the street with them. But they are solid speakers.

Yeah, I don't really want to have a whole lot of bass. Just a solid system. Its got plenty of sound though right?

Don't get 4 way speakers if you want good quality sound... I have pioneer 6x8's all around, just 2 way speakers... Hooked to a 4 channel amp excellent bass all around and Crisp clear mids and Highs.

Yes, If you don't want tons of bass then the 4-way pioneers would be great.

Idk man, I think they sound really great. You have the step up though right? the two way gold colored ones.

Yeah I have the 6x8 Premier speakers. They have a small crossover built into them to prevent the tweeters from getting any of the low frequency bass and cause distortion.

I don't know a 2 way seems to be the best route IMO. You have a 6x8 woofer and a 1" tweeter, and a 4 way adds lieka 1/2" tweeter and a 3mm tweeter. I just dont see the point in speakers that small. :dunno:

But if they are cheaper and sound good and your on a budget I would go for them I guess. I love my system though, such a step up from budget stuff.

I think they make speakers like that to keep all of the tweeters on their own freq level. But Idk. And any pioneer speaker is definitely a step up. Pioneer = Solid, cheap (in price) brand.

4 ways and 2 ways work differently. 4 ways seperate your sound into 4 different frequencies in 4 diff speakers per speaker if that makes sense. two way only seperate the frequencies between two speakers, one for lows the other is mids and highs together. the price difference isnt much more. Id go with the 4 way speakers, like everything else about our trucks youll mod more down the road.

Those speakers you got are solid speakers. I got the way way to have clearer highs for when I get my sub all wired up. Hopefully tomorrow!!!

I have decided to get these speakers- http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_18760_Pioneer_TS-D6802R.aspx

Planning on getting 4 of them. 2 in the front and 2 in the rear. I want to purchase a amp to power all 4 of them also. Im new to this stuff, you guys tell me what i need.

Thanks!

Those are almost exactly what I got, except I got the high end version but there is little difference I am sure besides lower power handling.

I have mine hooked to an Alpine MRP 300 amp, they sound good but I need to get some dynomat or fatmat cause they are rattling the c**p out of my door panels. lol

Ended up buying and installing everything today. I did not go with with pioneers as I had said. I bought 2 Focal 6x8's and 2 Kenwood 6x8's. Ran the off of my deck wattage output of 53 watts. I also put a rockford fosgate 12 inch sub in the rear. And hooked that up to my little Kicker amp. And man, lemme tell you, this system sounds flatout amazing! Some songs you don't want to crank it up!
