speaker problems

funds aren't really that low... although i'd like to keep both pairs at $100 or less.

and i wouldn't object to getting comps, although it's something i've never done before, and that would require me to get an amp (but that could always wait, correct?)

i'd just have to find somewhere to mount the amp, but i could always try doing that in my glovebox or something.

what's better for a secondary set of speakers, door or kick panel?
if it's kickpanel:
1) Should I buy online?
2) How hard would it be for a fiberglasser's first time to try a kickpanel?

if it's door:
1) should i hack up my door panels?
2) should i get donor door panels from the junkyard? (could possibly consider getting the whole door)
3) what door panels would fit my vehicle?
4) what doors would fit my vehicle?

and final question, should i spend more money on my door speakers or my dash speakers? (comps on doors or not?)

edit:

oh and when i had gotten the speakers, i realized that they seemed VERY deep.... rightfully so too! at 66mm of depth, that's 2.59 inches! that is far deeper than any other speaker for the most part, even the more expensive ones... so i'm hoping that when i get new dash speakers, the dash grills will be able to go back on... i knew i saved them and the hardware for a reason!! lol.

well, if you get comps, you can run them without an amp, they just wont have as much sound coming from them.

honestly, just take your time and mark everything and cut smaller than the hole needed then enlarge it as needed.

i wouldnt try doing your kick panels for a first fiberglass atempt. with out and amp or the knowledge to setup a sound stage your pissing in the wind.

honestly, the best setup i ever had in my truck was some off brand 6x9s in the doors and some audiobahn 4'' in the dash with a pioneer deh-p4700mp radio. sounded like i had a pair of subs behind the seat. and i heard details in music i never heard before.

honestly, the choice is up to you, i would just run what i posted on the 1st page. but if your set on comps, run the phoenix gold rsd6.5cs system. those speakers pack a punch, and the under 90.00 shipped. those with the sub behind the seat will have a nice balanced sound even without and amp.

if you have any more questions just ask.

well, it's no longer speaker problems, but i figured i'd just keep the same thread...

kinda a head unit problem... it seems like my HU overheats, or something. it shuts off randomly, and it does feel pretty hot around the back (i don't actually put my hand back there, but there is a very small gap, and can feel a significant heat source from back there. the face plate kind of moves around a little bit, and if i tinker with that, sometimes it stays on longer, and i'm not sure if it's just a bad connection with the gold connector thing, but idk how to get it so the faceplate doesn't move around?? and i tried cleaning the connectors with a dry q-tip, didn't help. i think i've heard i can use like windex or something? let me know.

but the head unit has been angering me enough that i started looking for a new (used) one on craigslist... here's my find:

Jvc cd receiver mod. # kd-r900
jvc_kd_r900-400-400.jpg

guy says it's only a month old and he still has box and receipt
you can look up the features if you want, but it's got 2 ipod hookups, integrated bluetooth, etc... he wants $150 for it, and i think that's pretty reasonable. i know JVC isn't like the BEST brand, but it seems like a pretty cool product, anybody have opinions on this?

he's also got some potential door speakers and dash speakers for sale:

Infinity Reference 6022i
Infinity_5022i.jpg

the only thing i'm concerned about is that they can handle up to 60w, so would they sound bad on my head unit power only? i hopefully would amp them some day to get their 60w... but they are 6.5" speakers with a 2 ohm design. very thin speakers too, thin enough that i might be able to get a baffle behind it for my doors

Infinity Reference 4022i
Infinity_5022i.jpg

4" speakers with a 2ohm design and they are under 2" thin which is great for my dash, 35w so i figure with the 20w per channel from the above head unit, these should sound good.

a direct quote from his email "150 4 the spkrs."... so i'm gonna ask him if he wants 150 for both pairs, if he does, i don't think i can pass up the offer. but let me know what you think, i'll ask him for a day or two to think it over

let me know what you guys think

to be honest, id pass on it. for the money you can get a nice alpine unit from www.sonicelectronix.com

and 150 for both pairs of speakers aint that great of a deal. i could do so much better for you than that.

well we didn't really discuss my head unit problem lol.. i want to get that figured out.

I've got the same 6022i speakers for sale here for 60 bucks, new in box. they can handle 60 watts RMS, with a peak of 180. I had a previous pair in my last car and they sound pretty crisp.

there's like screws on the plate that the faceplate attaches to (the plate is the part that flips out) and on the headunit itself, any of those going to make it a tighter fit so that i don't have to fiddle with the faceplate to get it to work?
