I'm wanting to know everyone's firm opinion on the best plugs and wires (or combined) for the 3.0.
I'm currently running bosch platinums with bosch wires, but now i need to change them so i thought i'd ask the community first

Btw the bosch plugs lasted almost 80,000 miles :icon_thumby:

i put bosch dp's in my truck when i first got it(before i joined trs) my engine ate holes in the tips of them in less than 7k miles........MC or autolite are the recommended pugs around here

I am not sure what you are confused about. I bought bosch DP's at autozone they were about $4-$5 each. I installed them. I developed a misfire on cyl 3 P0303. I tried a bunch of things because my NEW plugs had only 6k miles on them. Eventually I just pulled the plugs. the white tip of the plug in cyl 3 had pinhole openings in them....they had been eaten alive......

The plugs that have been PROVEN to be the best are the plugs that CAME in the lil truck.
There IS NOT a better plug than the motorcraft that came in there.
WIRES? As long as the wires are working no wire can be better.
All a plug does is make a spark. All a wire does is carry the electricity to make that spark.
You CANNOT go wrong using the factory plugs and wires. Using others is always a risk and they can NOT be better...only possibly WORSE!
The factory plugs and wires will last at least 100,000 miles. MY ford wires and plugs have been in there for over 130,000 miles now and still going strong.

just go with the autolite or motorcraft plug recommended for it, i had some bosch plugs in my other ranger and they did not get along well, i took them out after less than 3k miles and put in some copper autolites and all was well (90 2.3l).

I put some Denso 2xPlatinum plugs on in 2008. I've got about 6k on them with not a hint of problems. I guess I'll get back if I develop a problem in the next 1k or so. Can't believe that a plug manufactured specifically for the 3's engine by main line manufacturers will be any less serviceable than Autolites. We've had now one guy saying 80k with Bosch and one guy saying 7k - so what's the difference?

difference?

The different is the engine was tested for millions of miles before releasing to the public with motorcraft plugs. THEN after release the public has used that engine for more and more millions of miles. The motorcraft plugs do exactly what they need to do in these engines.

OTHER brands simply make a guess as to what MIGHT work! They may get it pretty close and then again they might NOT!

Why take a chance? No matter which plug you do install NO PLUG CAN BE BETTER than the motorcraft! So if none can be better?????

if you do buy something different just make sure its the same exact length as the stock plugs were, also if it advertises a "hotter spark" or something like that its total bs spark is spark if it is really hotter then its just eating up more electricity from your system and not giving any performance, also ive had multiple bad experiences with the bosch plugs that have the forked top and the semi-circular ones

I assume you have to file the electrode and regap them from time to time.

not if they are platinum plugs you dont want to, in doing so you would be removing the platinum plating from the electrode rendering the plug useless in most cases. 2000 calls for a platinum plug so thats what id get, either an autolite AP103 or a motorcraft AGSF22FM.

if you are a wally world shopper they carry the plugs....
