Spark Plugs

Horse crap!

rearranger I am trying to understand your posts but I cant. Are you saying that for our trucks there are better plugs then Motorcraft or Autolite.....because if you are, you are incorrect. maybe you are just a "post thrower".........

my answers

well i guess i got all the answers i need, im sure my wires are still good so i'll stick with them i was only going to replace them while i had the funds.

I was trying to find the bosch plugs again but im thinking i just got lucky last time or some thing. I'll more then likely go with autolites.

I'm only replacing the plugs because i sea foamed and got a nasty deposit on the plugs.

is it better to go with Iridium or Platinum?

In my opinion it all has to do with heat range and how well the plug dissipates heat. I have never heard of any plug that lasts longer than the motorcraft or autolite platinum in these engines. Like what was said above if you cant get any better why change a sure thing. I personally have never had a autolite platinum foul out even with the gaps over .055 on my last plug change. The specs call for .044

How would I be able to say they are better or worse (which I didn't), you can't say that yourself. All this, absent engineering data/testing, is speculation/trial and error. Motorcraft is actually owned and made by Autolite and their plugs work just fine, just as my Densos do. NGK, Denso, Autolite, Champion all spend huge engineering dollars developing and improving their plugs, not all the time for better performance but for better marketing of features/gimmicks. So to think that somehow there are no other plugs out there that will replace Autolite/Motorcraft is just wrong. One person's anecdotal experience doesn't prove anything either way - so don't start to infer a purpose to my posts that you can't justify - this is discussion, no more no less.

P.S. As for who makes and owns what is not all that clear. Seems Honeywell may own Autolite which makes Motorcraft. Allied-Signal may in there somewhere as well. The auto parts business is pretty vertically operated with brand name meaning not much except purchased share of market.

You,

I assume you have to file the electrode and regap them from time to time.

Sir assume incorrectly.. I'v not pulled any of the plugs a single time in 130K.

One thing I have noticed over the years is the vehicles I have purchased NEW have has slightly heavier duty plugs in them form the factory. I have placed the newly purchased plug side by side with the used factory plug and seen a noticeable difference several times. That difference has been in the wear points of the spark plug.

My wifes last surburban had a fuel pump failure at 160K. When purchaseing the pump I went ahead and bought the tuneup parts and tuned it at the same time, although it was still doing fine. The plugs I took out I KEPT! They look really good and only had a small amount of wear..

So if no plug CAN BE BETTER. Why even think about NGK, Denso, Autolite, Champion or others? The BEST you could have would be the same as Motorcraft..
