I was told by a "mechanic" that I can only use motorcraft spark plugs. Is ther a spark plug I can usr to give a wee bit more power? I plan on puttin in a coil from stuffforrangers. Any good?

The answers to your questions are: No, and No

plugs and coils

Plugs and coils can only make a spark! No spark is better than any other spark! The plugs that came with an engine are known to be the CORRECT plug for that engine. Using any other plug is taking a chence that it WILL NOT be as good as the factory plug.. NO PLUG can be better than the factory plug..
Coils simply supply the voltage to jump the gap in the plug and make a spark. If your coil is making a spark... NO COIL can do better.
Coils build up voltage until enough is built up to jump the gap and make the spark.. ALL COILS make the same spark at the same voltage. Many aftermarket coils have the ability to make a spark at comperssion and speeds that the factory coil CANNOT.. However if the factory coil is working these aftermarket coils can do no better..

hahah thanks ill check it out

the only reason you need a better coil is Boost or outragous amounts of compression. since i dont think you have either, save your money, put in autolites or motorcrafts and leave the coil alone.

I just put autolite platinums in mine. Removed some old nasty autolite coppers. Didn't notice a bit of difference.

Yep!

If you don't NEED new plugs... there will be no difference. I change plugs at around one hundred and twenty-five thousand miles.. NEVER before that.
If it ain't broke I don't fix it.

I run Motorcraft Double platinums in mine, why? because that's what
the dealer will install if they do a tuneup on a 4.0.

No the dealer didn't do my last tuneup I did it before I put the engine in my chassis.

I'm not running stock wires though.
I'm running KEM "Mag Plus" wires.
They are a pretty yellow color but they don't add any power.
I just happened to know their silicone boots survive being near
header pipes and their wires have both a stainless steel core
(that can't break down over time) AND a lifetime warrantee.

Yellow is about the only reason I can think of to change from OEM wires.. good choice.
