If you can find ONE WIRE that is bent in such a shape that it WANTS to be on a certain plug that should do it for you to get all of them in line where they need to be.

Find compression of TDC of #1 cyl
pull cap off ...look at where rotor is pointing.

place #1 plug wire to the appropriate corresponding plug wire tower on the cap and start form there....Distributor Rotation - Clockwise, from the front of the engine

My bad I just woke up think i was having flashbacks of a mopar. It is still the same as diagram tho. it should have made a funny noise 1 and 6 should have fired was it running when u took it apart and do u have a timing light to check for spark

If you are not getting spark go to the TFI diagnostics in the tech library for troubleshooting the ignition system it can only be spark or fuel and both are controlled by the EEC-IV computer check the obvious first connectors, fuel pressure, wires if it just stopped working hopefully it is something simple but the tech library has alot of info

the ignition control module may be the culprit. just did a tune up on an '88 model ranger. replaced the ICM which is bolted (tiny screws) to the firewall side of the dist. they are fairly inexpensive ?think it was less than 50.00? my guess is that it was just coincidental that you had just been working on it. ???????? did you put any DI-Electric grease between ICM and dist housing ???????????????
