I have a new 2010 extra cab that has stock 225/70/15 Continental Contitrac tires on it. The tires are starting to make that infamous contitrac road noise that is about as annoying as listening to an Obama speech.
The spare is a 145/80/16 donut wheel and I am wondering how big I can go before the spare is insufficient. I don't want to screw up the axle if I have to put the donut on the rear.
BJ's has 235/70/15 Michelin X Radial LTs on sale for $85 each plus installation and tax because they are being discontinued.
Will I be ok with the Michelins?

unless you have a limited slip in the back, the tire size wont really matter. especially for the short trips a spare makes.

i once had to put a 205/75/r15 on the back of my bronco with 33's. sat crooked, but didn't hurt anything

I bet it sat crooked! No limited slip diff in my truck so I guess we'll be OK.
Thanks!
The only bad thing about buying the X Radial LTs is that the replacement tires by Michelin don't come in 235/70/15 anymore so if a tire gets fubared there is no way to get a replacement so it'll be a mix and match type deal.
$370 for a set installed is just too good to pass up.
Continental Contitrac tires hold the road nice and balance up great but listening to that constant noise is enough to make you insane.

the spare on mine is a 235/75/15, the tires are 245/75/16's. Looked closely around the spare and trying to get a 245/75/16 in there would be pretty tight.
