Anybody here changed their truck over to the crankdown style hanger? I am looking at doing it, my old hinge type has been cut away. Thinking the crank could be inserted in through the tire well.

I just mounted mine to the bed sidewall, drivers side, in front of the wheel arch. I think it would fit behind the arch, also. I made the mistake of blocking the tire winch hole, between the tailgate and bumper by a " Fire" led strip. I liked the light better than having the spare under the truck.
I think this works better.

I like the winch on my F-150... but if that cable breaks you loose your spare. If the winch seizes you can only look at your spare, no spare for you on the side of the road.![]()

I had planned to mount it higher but it made more sense for it to be mounted low enough to be able to open the hatch on my cap without moving the tire. Since its not an offroad rig the departure angle doesnt matter. I was glad i made that decision.. It makes it easier to throw parts in and out on trips to the parts store lolI have plans to do this.
It appears to sit lower than I like, as my 6 yo grandson would ask " why for you do dat? " .
Maybe another pic, or 2.
I didnt think about that.. Though are we talking about the factory tire carrier or my scrap pile built swing out? They get corrosion under the nylon coating, it is far from unheard of for the spare to run away without the driver knowing it.
