This is getting really damn ridiculous. I just changed the settings so new registrations will have to answer questions instead of the recaptcha thing.

I'm on some closed forums and the admins there are running into the same problem with spam accounts. Imagine what other open forums like this one are going through.

The spam on the closed forums originates from foreign addresses, especially Asia and Eastern Europe.

I don't understand the reasoning. It's only garnering negative feelings...not new customers or click throughs, which Is normally how "they" get paid. So the effort - as little as it might be- is useless.

EDIT: I just want to add that I don't find the spam crap annoying. I just ignore it an move on -- having been in the ad biz for so long, I'm just used to it. The mods efforts to keep it to a minimum is noted and appreciated. I had a small forum for a few years and mod'd some, so I am very familiar with what you go through .

That oughtta work just fine. The would-be spammers will now get thrown into the volcano instead of being allowed to cross the bridge.
