Ok guys,
New to the forum just got a 93 black ranger project to toy around and get dirty with. I bought it for 300 with a no start problem. checked fuel pressure changed the fuel pump and she runs good but obviously has tons of issues, haha.
Now for the 4x4 question, lol. Well the 93 ranger i own has automatic hubs and i really have no idea what front axle it has im thinking its gotta be some sort of a dana 35??? axle setup since the front axle and diff looks beefier than most newer rangers it also seems to have some protective cover on it that i dont see other rangers with, but i dont ,now rangers to well yet.
Anyway when i hit the button for 4x4 it lights up and no crazy sounds or anything. Its defiantly selecting 4x4 but the weird crazy thing is only when 4x4 is on and I drive in reverse theres a 'clicking' sound. Its a little strange to me just due to the fact that if its the automatic hubs or the front axle making the clicking sound why wouldnt do it just normally driving forward?
Clicking sound only occurs during reverseing in 4x4.
When 4x4 is selected off its good no clicking.
What can I do to give a good diagnosis and trouble shoot whats actually causing the sound. Im always working by myself in my shop so its kinda impossible to have someone walk by the side of the truck. By reading the tech articles it seems all signs point to the automatic "junk" hubs, lol but I want to figure it out for sure.
Thanks alot guys, i really appreciate any things to try out!
