Sound like a coil problem?

OK, the Ranger (96 4.0) needs some lovin'. Today I started it and noticed my tach wasn't moving. I shut it off and started it a couple times, and it stayed at 0rpm's. After I drove it for a bit, the tach suddenly decided to participate with the rest of the gauges, and started working.

I'm starting to wonder if my coil is going south on me. The tach runs off a signal from the coil, right?

I've also been chasing a "chugging" problem for a bit now. I've replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter in the past couple weeks. It runs MUCH better, but the chugging is still evident. I've had three cylinder 4 misfires where the spark plug was the culprit.

Fuse? Corrosion in the fuse panel? With the old wiring harness I had to periodically kick the fuse panel while driving to keep everything working. Check a wiring diagram and see if something else that runs off the same fuse is losing power.

Can't be, or else it wouldn't have come back on

Corrosion in the fuse panel?

The fuse panel still looks brand new, both sides.

Check a wiring diagram and see if something else that runs off the same fuse is losing power.

This is a good idea. Will do if it happens again.

But I really think it's the signal coming from ???thecoil???

I found a coil in my shed from an Explorer I had that I will swap into my Ranger and see what happens.
