Sound dampening at shifter

Putting my shifter parts back together after a clutch job. I noticed how loud it is with the shifter trim completely off and was wondering about sound dampening before covering it back up. I have some leftover batts of rockwool insulation. I can't think of any reason not to lay it in there. Any other ideas?

First thing that comes to mind is insulation may trap moisture/water. If it's easy access try it but check.

Probably be better to use a closed cell foam or something. I like Rockwool, but it can hold moisture and that’s no good in this situation.

Not sure about others but the M5OD vents thru the shifter tower.

ah yeah good points. May not be worth it. I'll update if I decide to do something.

I did put a piece of rubber roofing on my F-150 shifter under the boot to get kind of a double layer of rubber. I think some trucks had a molded rubber bit for in there but I’ve never seen it available anywhere
