Tell me if this makes any sense. It's about the B-series trucks.
02-04 The B4000 SE ran 245/75R16 but you could get and off-road pkg which basically made it to an FX, and that ran 31x10.5R15
05-08 B4000 SE ran 255/70R16 and there was no off-road package, but, the SE's came with everything that was in the off-road package before, except, not the 31" tires

I guess my question is why would they get rid of the 31" tires and is there any reason you couldn't run 31" or is it a lot different to 255/70 which is 30.1" (I realize they are different wheel sizes).
I'm thinking the 255/70's might be quieter on the road, and they're cheaper. Might not be as good off-road.
As to the why probably there is no more reason to it than anything else mfgrs seem to do year to year.

Factory had different priorities sometimes. That larger tire could have cost them a couple tenths in mpg. They have to meet minimum emissions and mpg requirements set by the gov. Just a guess. The 31 10.5 tire is 1/2 wider than the other tire also.

Factory tire sizes don't matter on 15-20 year old trucks. Run what you want.
