I have a 1993 4.0 ohv with a fresh rebuild on the motor, comp cam, bored .40 over, new heads, everything inside the motor is new, pacesetter headders, also a new rebuild on the manual trans. What are some ways to get more power out of it? I bought the chip that went with the cam from summit at first it made the truck sound great and gave her a little more power but shortly after install started idleing high and bogging down when giving it gas. Any ideals on some, more upgrades i could do to it?

First id fix whatever is making it idle high and bog (probably a vacuum leak).

Then, id keep the hood shut and regear the axle(s) as a bump in gears will give you more noticiable power then engine mods will.

Hey Rusty :) Could you define "bump in gears" Plz

Cool. Yeah thats what i was leaning towards. The high idle is fixed it was from the chip. What gears are good to go with? Amd should i put them in tge rear and front axles?

Figure out what gears you have now. Do this by looking at the door sticker under "axle", they'll be a "code" (85, B6, etc), post up what you find.

Also, yes if the truck is 4wd then youll have to swap gears in the front and rear axles so they match ratio.

Cool. Thats next on my list then. 4:10 gears. Pretty simple task to handle at home? Does not seem to difficult.

Not normally a beginners home project. It can be done. But you want it done right. Start reading about pinion depth, carrier shims and tooth engagement patterns. There are some special tools and techniques involved.

You are almost further ahead finding axles in the junkyard with the desired gears and bolting in the whole axle.

This looks like one of those "ALL YA GOTTA DO IS....." Sounds like you don't do much of your own work. I would watch some videos about whatever you are wanting to do to make sure you got the general concept, right tools and the time to do whatever task you are wanting to do. If you are a beginner with tools then I would try a simpler task like spark plugs and wires (doesn't hurt to change old ones anyway) or try changing the fuel filter and see how those tasks treat you. Things sound easy and seem easy when someone explains it to you and then you realize you opened a can of worms that you can't get back in the can. lol. Just trying to save you a headache or a bad day. I don't know your skill level so don't be offended by this.

This is why i suggested swapping the whole axles rather then stuffing in new gears.

Rear axles are easy enough a trained monkey could do it (assuming youre using an axle from the same vehicle).

Never did a TTB but have pulled 2wd front ends and they arnt exactly rocket science either, i would think a 4wd TTB wouldnt be a whole lot harder.

But yes, good advice, but theres only one way to learn and thats to get out the sockets and dig in.
