Some stupid basic questions...

I have a 99 2.5L manual tranny and there are a couple things I need to get done, but I have some questions first.

1. I need to change the ABS/Speed sensor in the rear differential housing. The bolt is super stuck/rusted on there and I might have rounded the damn bolt trying to remove it. I have a bed liner on the bed right now, so should I remove it and the bed to get better access or is that overkill? If I should remove it, how does one get a bedliner out of the bed?

2. The rear differential seems to be leaking some oil from where it attaches to the rear end of the drive shaft. Not a whole lot, it seems, but it's definitely leaking. Can anyone tell me what the likely source of the leak is and possibly how to fix it?

3. I want to drain the tranny and refill it with fresh fluid, but the fill hole seems pretty hard to pour liquid into. Any tips on how to fill the tranny more easily?

Thanks,
-Rob

check your bed liner for screws, release em and pull it up.
for the refilling in the tranny, u need a hose to fill it up. remember to use mercon atf or equivalent.
hope it helps

1. Get vise-grips on it, wiggle it, and pull harder. Use PB Blaster.
You really shouldn't even have to think about removing your bed, but to remove the bedliner, from the back pull it up in the middle which will cause the sides to pull down and out from unser the rails.

2. Sounds like it's and pinion seal. No offense but, if you have to ask that question, your not the person to replace it. Take it to your local transmission shop or able/ trusted mechanic.

3. Get about 3-4 foot of rubber 3/8" fuel hose, or some thing similar. Get the top off of a gear lube bottle. Put that cap on your ATF bottle then put the hose on that and just squeeze it in.

Thanks for the help. No offense taken. I've worked a LOT on FWD cars (built/replaced engines, trannys, etc.) but I've never worked on anything RWD, so these components are all new to me. I'll just have to learn by messing it up the first five times I try anything, just like when I first learned how to work on the other cars.

Thank God for PB blaster and hammers, hahaha. Finally got that bolt out using the hammered-on-socket technique.

To get fluid into the trans, use one of these:

They're very handy. I have 3 of them.
