Ok I bought an 89 2.3 ranger, it will run great for a little while then going down the road it bogs down if you give it to much gas or try to go up a hill. Soon as you let off the gas it runs fine. Alot of the time if you just turn the key back then forward it runs great for a little while.

I bought it like this because I had this exact problem befor with my 4.0 and it was the MAF, well this doesnt have a MAF, so I replaced the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor. The old one look like it was burned, totaly fryed. I replaced it and its doing the same thing still. WTH?:icon_confused:

Its as if when I turn the key back I reset the PC and it take min or 2 to notice something isnt reading right. Could an o2 do this?

Pull the codes before you buy any parts and reset the computer when you change or clean a sensor. It could be a few things you have a MAP sensor and check the fuel pressure could be the regulator or fuel filter I would start with the fuel filter preventative main first. give it a good tune up and check the egr system if yours has one.

I havent tryed the codes yet but theres no light on

I took a chance. your fuel filter is clog and clean your O2 sensor with

or change :icon_thumby: good luck

I agree with all of those suggestions.

When you give it gas does it drop down a gear (guessing its an auto) If not, check out the Trans kickdown cable.

Brand new fuel filter. Ill clean my o2. Right now im thinking MAP but I dont know how to check it. Whatever it is isnt giving me a light, and yes the check engine light works. Only thing I have arond is some MAF cleaner, would that work on an o2?? I unlpuged the MAP but it only runs if I keep it reved up

sounds like the MAP is working then. Cleaning the O2 isn't likely going to work, they're about $40 for a new one (make sure they give you a 3 wire sensor...) but just try pulling it out, see if it's black or just normal looking. There are several possibilities like the TPS, fuel pressure regulator, oxygen sensor, also sounds kind of like what my truck's doing right now but I haven't figured out it's problem yet... It's best not to just throw parts at it but do troubleshooting. For the oxygen sensor, how many miles are on the truck? and is it original? (The stock Motorcraft sensor is about 1/2" diameter on the outside where the new Bosch(they make most of them now) are about 3/4" diameter) then pull it and see if it just looks caked with carbon or looks the color of a good used spark plug (chocolate milk), get yourself some antiseize compound though before you put it back in, use it sparingly just on the threads. If the O2 sensor is black it should have given you a code for running rich but could mean a bad fuel pressure regulator (pull off the vacuum line to the regulator, plug it off and start it up, if fuel squirts out the regulator is bad) also check the fuel pressure, see if it's doing ok.

No its a manual. I can rev it all the live long day long as its not in gear

Well I had crap in the gas tank. Sock was off and there was a ton of something in the fuel pump. Fixed

Adding about 4 ounces of acetone with fill ups will dissolve the crap that builds up over time and it washes it all the way thru the injectors. The poor mans injector cleaner do it for two or three tankfulls it dont take much larger tanks a little more figure 4 oz for a 15 gallon tank full. whats that a half a cup

Ill Start doing that from time to time.
