Hey guys. I am going to get my first ford ranger soon. I was just wondering how hard it is to put in a 6 inch lift kit. I am thinking Fabtech or Skyjacke. Not sure yet. My dad is verry mechanical from living on a farm and i was just wondering if anyone else has done it them selves. If so was it hard? Also of problems? Alot of time? Please guys any tips would be great! Thanks!

First of all, what year? Fabtech doesn't make any lift kits for the 83-97 Rangers (1st-3rd gen). Or at least they don't anymore. And I'm pretty sure that Skyjacker does not make lift kits for 98 and newer (4th-5th gen). They only make lift kits for the 1st-3rd gens which are of the TIB/TTB style suspension (Twin I-Beam if 2wd or Twin-Traction Beam if 4wd). Also you can get lift kits for that style suspension from Rough Country, Doetsch Tech, Superlift and Pro-Comp. Race Car Dynamics makes lift kits for 98+ 2wd trucks as well as Fabtech and Doetsch Tech.

But to answer your original question, from what I've seen, the 97 and older trucks are easier to lift and cheaper to lift. Unless you have a 98 and newer which still probaly isn't as hard, but is more expensive to lift.
