hey guys!! first of all happy new year!:icon_thumby:
the question is: i have a 12" subwoofer 800W in my reg cab. the thing sounds like a champ(kenwood) but the passenger seat stays too close to the dashboard
and its not comfortable at all so i removed it and installed a box with a couple 8", they arent that great quality so the sound is never gonna be like the 12", i want to know, is there any way a couple of 8" sound the same as a 12"?? i mean how many Watts they have to be? or can i achieve this with a couple of 10"?? i think a couple of 10" will give me what i want, the same sound as the 12" and some space for the passenger
i would like to see pics of anyone that has 8" and 10" subs in the reg cab trucks please, to get the idea of what i want.
thanks!!:icon_thumby:

update!!!
i finally purchased my new subs, i went for the 10" xplods,, they look cool, sound cool and the space they need is less compared to the kenwood
thanks for all the advice here!!

i have 2 10's in my reg cab 93 ranger. If you need any pictures or anything of my box. I only had to move my seats 1click but wasnt really needed and it only hangs about 1/2 inch over that back lip. Anything i can do to help i will try to do lmao.

thanks Rusty.

8's are 8's 10's are 10's and 12s are 12's
you wont ever get one to sound like the other. if your looking for vol in DB's yea 3 8's will be one 12" but you dont get the quality of sound in the frec's

if you like reall punchy stuff 8 or 10 are better if you like load and viberating 12-15 are better.

your box can be changed to fit your truck you need a power wedge, or that styling of box. you can get one custom made for the same price as buying one. i used to have a 15 in a ex cab sport and could put my set half way down. now i have a 12 and it can go all the way down. you my frined have the wronge box

now, the CuFt of the box can help blend the sound your lookign for. subs have min and max's as far as the sub box goes. if you have a 10 inch sub and a 3CuFt it will have the pucnh of the 10 but with better resonate (more like the 12) if you take a 12 inch and put it in a .75 CuFt box it will resonate like a 12 but tend to be more punchy.
but watch out as a rule of thumbe if your "12" needs 300 watts rms to run in a 1.5 CuFt box and you jam it in a 1 or .75 CuFt box you might need more like 400 watts to push it.

im really sick right now so if this doesnt make sence :thefinger: lol let me know ill try and type better.

mmm i see, yeah i would like to see some pics 93splash!!
and thanks for the tech info 4x4fun, i understand half of it lol! :D
i will check out a couple of 10" and see if the box can fit with out any trouble when i recline the seats back a bit, not only on the leg space, i drove today with the couple of 8" and i start to like em, but i need more frec quality so thats why im thinking of the 10" or at least one single 10" the12" i had is like 5 1/2 inches deep so the box cant get any shallow, i saw the other day a 10" sony x plod in a factory made enclosure, it is made specially for trucks because the sub is very shallow, and the box also, so im gonna check that one and measure the box to see if that one gives me good sound and decent space on the truck
thanks!!:D

i dont know your money sitution but sony went south with the explodes if you like the box. get it but be willing to swap out the sub with in the next year,

kicker makes good stuff (best bang for the buck) and the 12'' mounting depth is 4 5/16
the 10 is 4 and 3/16 check out there compVT line

i know money is factor most of the time. i have put together $300 systems and $3000 systems, its better to spend the money the first time and get something middle of the road (not the best but not walmart) and do it right the first time. '"amps are the killer" and big amp and small sub will work but a small amp and big sub will not. IE. its easer (cheeper) to go from a 15 to a 12 or 10 then from a 10 0r 12 to a 15.

yeah i know better spent a bit more but for quality
my amp is a soundbarrier 600W 2 channel
im gonna checkout prices on kenwood, the 12" i have is akenwood and its 3 years old with no trouble, the amp is 2 years old
thanks for the advice

I have to 8"s in my 93 reg. cab and I get compliments on how it sounds. Now I wont go and win any SPL comp.(YET 4-12"s are going in the bed) but it has a good sound. I can post pics and vids if you want.

2 very good quality 8" subs:

Digital Designs 1508

Sundown E8

thanks guys, i have a good deal on a couple of 10" hurricane power subs 600W each, does anyone has used this brand? people say its good quality, i have heard the same, i just want to be sure, are they even better than x plod?
the same shop offers me a 10" x plod 1200W
but with my amp i can use the couple of h.p. with no problem, they are competition series, the magnet coil is huge on those things

sony is bottom of the barrel crap. anything is better than sony

the fact that its 1200 watts doesnt mean anything really. your out side the usa so i dont know about the brands and
and the guy is the vid is stupid
and to guy that wants to put speakers in a truck bed i may have to pull your man card and say wtf

sony is bottom of the barrel crap. anything is better than sony

i thought sony was good, but :dunno: many people says sony is not good anymore, to cheap manufacturing makes the speakers and subs weak and easy to overload and die.
so the hurricane powers are a good deal? are they good enough to keep the cool on the abuse just like the kenwood did?
i want to know if anyone has heard of the brand and if it's good quality

sony home audio/video is decent but thats it. never heard of that brand. got a link with any info/specs?

thats the thing i cant find anything on that brand, i better sitck to the xplod, at least they are known, a friend of mines had x plod subs on his car, he gave the same abuse i gave to mine and the x plod never failed, im gonna test both subs tomorrow, but the lack of info on the hp doesnt make me any happy, i'm 60% on the xplod side now, it gives what i need decent sound and quality, small space and good price tomorrow i'll see which one si the best
thanks for all the advices guys!!
i'll post what i get
