Bought a nice little ranger the other day. As with any new to me vehicle I'm going over everything on it. I noticed that the check engine light didn't light up when key is turned on as it should. I decided to remove the instrument cluster which is not the easiest task and check the bulb.To my surprise the seller had removed the dash components in order to put a strip of electrical tape over the the check engine light. I removed the tape and Walla! It did have a code for a intake blend door module and is now fixed.

Atleast it was a simple fix.

They worked harder to fudge it than they would have to fix it.
By the way, it's voila not walla. It's French and means see that or look at that.

They removed bulb from 99 2.5 before I purchased, was only running on 3 cylinders, guy claimed it was just a motor mount, until I put a scanner on it!

I'm trying to remember how many vehicles I've bought with disabled CEL's. Boggles the mind...

Walla is a slang term used primarily by people in the south. It means the same thing as voila. We don't speak French and don't want to for that matter.😁

And then there are those of us that intentionally say 'viola' just to see who's paying attention.

Some of us say sumadebeech !

This is one of the reasons I’m real leery about buying used vehicles. It always seems like someone is hiding something they don’t want to deal with and sell it off to someone else to deal with. And cheat the buyer in the process.

At least in NH if you bought it from a new or used car dealer you have some recourse, private sale you're on your own. We took a 4x4 truck in trade once and 4x4 didn't work. When we took it apart we found the front differential and axles missing, if we'd done that to a customer we'd have been thieves.

Electrical tape is far superior to duct tape for things like this. I always keep a wire coat hanger available too, for mechanical repairs.

Nice looking truck!

Ahh yes, the joys of used vehicles. I bought an 89 Bronco II off a former member on here (SherrodwannabeB2, aka Farva) that had over 23 aftermarket lights and none worked. When I went to pull the hacked wiring I thought I disconnected it from power first, then when I was contorted under the dash happily snipping it free... clip-spark... hmmm, that shouldn’t have been... clip-spark.... wtf.... turns out there was wire tied into anything hot that was along it’s path

or the 89 Eddie Bauer B2 I bought off at college, pulled the cluster (forget exactly why) to find that someone had stripped a bunch of gauge wires bare trying to find the right wire for something and left them like that. I started putting liquid electrical tape on the wires to seal them up and prevent a fire or something. Well, when the package says to kill power to the circuit, it’s advisable. There was a sudden snap of a spark and I had flaming wires in the dash. Got it out and the only thing hurt was my pride, lol.

Been there, done that, but not in many many years unless it was one of the $200-300 specials where you have zero expectations going in.

On this Little blue one, it looks too good to be true, but I’m starting to realize it’s a scam. They’re asking me to send them my name and address and etc. etc. We’ll see how it plays out.

Maybe I should tell them I’ll trade them for that $100 bronco II From a few days ago...

Hey now, don’t be making it look like I’m involved with whatever you got going on, I don’t want your address yet :icon_twisted::thefinger::icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

On the other hand, you didn’t realize I stripped all the wires out in that little truck before you bought it all those years ago....
