I just sold my 2000 Mazda B3000 4X4 today. It was a good truck that was very dependable but I wanted more power. I do pull 12 and 14 foot boats fishing boats and with just 30X9.5 inch tires the engine could barely hold overdrive and on any type of hill forget it. I have always found when I turn overdrive off I get only about 16 miles to the gallon where in overdrive I get about 20 MPG. I have decided to get a S10 ZR2. Those trucks are great with the offroad package with 31 inch tires and the powerful 4.3. I hope to get a regular cab ZR2 but those are hard to find. I was looking for a regular cab 4X4 4.0 ranger 98 plus but I haven't been able to find one so I think I am going to get a S10 ZR2. Its a shame they didn't make more regular cab 4.0 rangers:annoyed:. Anyways just wanted to say I love rangers just couldnt find what I wanted.

I've never had an automatic, but aren't you supposed to turn OD off when you are towing or hauling a load? Granted a 12 foot boat isn't the heaviest, but....

Oh yeah the B3000 4X4 was really good. My friend have one and I can say that it was really awesome and If I have one I don't want to sell it. :nono:

Towing + overdrive = Fail

Towing with the overdrive on makes the tranny try to drive like normal instead of kicking down a gear like it should when towing. The result is a truck with no balls and a tranny that is about to die. They over heat and burn up.

my buddy has a zr2 an its a dog! gets about 15 mpg.... id wait an keep searching for that right truck.

Actually only if it really hunts for a gear do you need to turn it off, on flat ground running in OD won't hurt a thing provided it stays there, but running in hills getting 2-3 downshifts per hill is where heat starts building and you need to turn it off.

They do anything but try to stay in a gear if you are hauling too much for OD.
