SOHC fuel line disconnect

I am going to replace the driver's side valve cover gasket next weekend, I have reviewed the Ford workshop manual and everything looks relatively easy.

One thing I am not clear on is the fuel line disconnect. The manual calls for a spring lock coupling disconnect tool (412-038). It shows a clam shell like configuration. I looked at that fuel line coupling and it looks like a clip holds it together and I should be able to just pop it off to be able to pull the coupling apart. Is there something else I am going run into that requires that tool for disconnection?

I don't mind buying a tool but I don't want to buy something I don't need.

It is a standard issue spring lock coupler, like Ford used for almost 30 years. The clip you are seeing is the safety retainer. It holds the line together if the spring fails to seat, and I have seen that happen.

I had an AC line blow off in my face a few years ago because the spring lock didn't hold and the safety clip was missing.


Also, for all the stuff you have done to various vehicles how do you not own a simple set of disconnect tools? You don't need that big clam-shell one the shop manual shows. The $15 Lisle set from Sears or the parts stores works just fine.
 
I have never had to disconnect a fuel line with one of the couplers before and work on A/C is always done by a qualified technician. Looks like I will be adding to my tool collection.

It is not like the older fuel filter coupler is it? Or, possibly the clutch hydraulic line connection? I have tools for those.
 
Similar idea, slightly different execution.
