what is the best/effective way to soak lifters before installing them into the engine? What type of oil is to be used and how long to soak them? 302 v8 is my application, carbed. Thx!

Just set em upright in a container of motor oil and let em set overnight. If they're flat tappet lifters, you'll also need to apply a thin film of cam lube on the bottoms before installing them.

Do not use full syn. motor oil. If you do, then your lifters will not break in correctly with the cam. Also, don't 'pump' them full of oil. This can cause problems when adjusting the rockers due to the lifters being pumped up. A quick splash in a container of of SAE 30 will do the trick to keep them from being eaten alive during your first startup.

its not really that critical. if they just came out of a motor, i just lube em up and roll

Hum, never had a problem adjusting "pumped full of oil" lifters. Works just fine with oil in em.

I got a new set of lifters from Crane Cams, and in the install instructions, *yeah, it read the instructions with everything I buy* They had the "dont pump them full of oil" thing. I just posted what I read :)
