tomorrow I'll be running my truck in a tractor pull, have done it 3 years in the past but all N/A, I'm still running the stock D28 and 7.5 with 4.10 gears and 31" BFG AT's, I'm planning on running with premium and octane boost, as is it will run at about 13psi but pings a bit at certain times hence the octane boost, I figure that should put me in the 200HP range. because of the turbo I will be put in the super stock class (apparently a simple header will put you in it) so I'll be running against modded V6's and stuff, but nothing too fancy as they have to be under 4000lb

so, who thinks I'll break something? or is it going to live? I can't decide, 200hp is a lot of power to first gear low range...

I think the biggest problem you are going to have is the pinging.

Just have someone take pictures and video, sounds like a good time

yeah, if it pings hard under that much load, I'll throttle back like I do when driving on the street... don't need to blow a piston...

will have my girl taking video, my truck isn't as pretty as it once was since I flopped it in a ditch on monday... dents mainly on drivers door, got most of them out with my body hammers and a 1x4. will stick video on U tube or photobucket later, still need to make an account, I maxxed out my attachments with the pics of my install.

You should not be pinging at 13psi with 93 octane. What grade fuel do you run?

I have premium in it now, under certain circumstances it will ping, mainly after driving it a bit, going to a store and leaving it sit and heat soak then restarting and driving again, miy intake is right next to the turbo which doesn't help anything and is probably the root of the problem

I saw a lifted chevy snap the driveshaft at a tractor pull. It was AMAZING how fast at least 10 Ford owners were racing to be the one to tow him off the track! :icon_rofl:

Are you intercooled?

If not, Id look into water injection, very simple/cheap setups can be made with spare parts.

Also, that is alot to be putting through the 7.5, D28, and BW1350 if you got a load on it, just dont go overboard when you get stuck.

Yea that's probably the main problem. You should be able to run about 15 psi on 91 octane with no intercooler and the old style ECU (non LA3). Try moving the intake up front where you can get some fresh air. Here is mine. The factory air inlet is right there and i cut some of the factory battery box out so the filter hangs down where it get plenty of fresh air.:icon_thumby:

Here are some facts from stinger Performance.

How much boost can I safely run on 91 octane?
These are general guidelines only. Always test with windows up, muffled exhaust, radio off, etc. so you can listen for audible detonation. Detonation sounds like gravel rattling in a tin can down near the back of the engine. If detonation is heard, get out of the throttle and lower boost or timing until it goes away. Since there are so many factors that effect this, I'll try to cover as many as I can but keep in mind that every vehicle is different and many other factors besides those mentioned below will effect maximum allowable boost.

-Assuming no intercooler, stock timing with an early (not LA or PE series) ECU.
14-16psi.
-Assuming stock intercooler, stock timing with an LA or PE series ECU.
17-20psi.
-Assuming large efficient front mount intercooler, stock timing with an LA or PE series ECU.
19-24psi.

i would take it easy on that particulaar drivetrain, but i would also run race fuel for that so that i wouldn't blow the powerplant up. a few extra dollars isnt that much compared to a full rebuild.

it did fine, the front axle was jumping pretty violently (thought the engine mount broke by the end), ran 15psi without detonation (that I could hear) until the fuel pressure regulator hose fell off in the axle jumping... made it run kinda funny on the way to the parking lot.

ended up being beat by a cherokee with a 4.0 and mud terrain tires (I just have all terrain tires), still got a second place plaque (now have two firsts and two seconds)

will try to get video up later

there was a '78 or '79 bronco that ran, broke the front of the rear pumpkin off of the 9" axle... a couple other broken drive shafts.

ok, finally made up a photobucket account... HERE'S the video

notice that wheel hop up front, I think I need new shocks... can't really hear the turbo, but believe me, it's there...
