Ok, I got an FREE '88 4x4 ext cab with a 4 inch body lift. The guy lost interest in the V8 swap project. He also gave me a 351W and a new c4 with the adapter to go to the ranger T-case. I've been reading up on these swaps and its been said that late 80's and early 90's convertible 5.0 motor mounts will work. I called O'Reileys today and they looked up mounts for a 93 5.0 convertible and told me the part number was the same as hatchback 5.0's. Anyone know what the deal is? They were fairly cheap at $27 and $25 a piece. I thank you in advance.

If you look on www.rockauto.com you see they are a lot cheaper
10.62/left side
10.89/right side. They also list the same part number for both conv. and hatchback.

No expert but not sure how much power that stock Ranger X-fer case can take. Sure ought to be something better/stronger that will work with the 351 power.

They are indeed different mounts. The convertible mounts are boxed in and much stronger.

Here's a convertible mount:

And a regular mount:

Wrong mount listings? Same thing happened to several looking for the OHC 4.0L mounts for their Explorer swaps. Both RockAuto and another supplier had the wrong ones listed as being correct and didn't come close to working. Sad statement but better to trust the guys here than some of the suppliers. Seen even Summit being wrong lately.

On rockauto website it has the convertable mount pictured.

I have never seen that style of motor mount in the 2nd pic.

noticed you got the pic from rockauto.

Here's the coupe mount:

It's not a captured design like the Vert/sn/markVII piece.

The coupe mounts are said to be slightly taller than the other mount, which may be ideal for a 4x4, as some guys have had the drain plug in the pan very close to the crossmember while using vert mounts.

Maybe this will help:

From 87-90 the convertible Mustang had the “captured” mount design, while the Hardtops had the standard design. The captured style mounts are said to be ½” to 1” lower, and to be stronger.

In 90 and later Mustangs, ALL were equipped with the captured design.

Aftermarket Prothane mounts are said to mimic the design of the early Hardtops. While the Energy mounts are said to mimic the convertible “captured” mounts. So, Energy Engine Mounts should be the same height as the 87-90 convertible “captured” motor mounts"
