It was getting a bit stuffy anyway...

I picked up some roadside scrap and thought it was secured...but between the potholes and ridges I managed to jiggle something loose and a filing cabinet tried to enter the cab through the back window....

Amazing how much glass those windows have when you have to pick it out of your cab...

I was going to have a metal screen made up to protect the window and hold my ladder(s)...and I was going to put a slider in some day...not sure if I can get one now...gonna have to start looking soon though...:bawling:

Was thinking about putting something up on my light bar to keep that from happening but now that you have said something, Im going to do just that. But instead of metal screen, I want to use barb wire.

well that wasnt smart. you know opening both doors will air it out just as well, maybe better LOL

Yeah, headache is right....lol

Barbed wire? When I was contemplating the slider I remembered how a guy got into my cab through the back...so barbed wire would have come in handy in that case...but I think I might go with plexiglass...takes a beating and keeps on...being there...lol

Eddie_88: I can't open the doors while I'm driving...well, I can...but it's not a good thing some times...lol...

as long as your strapped in it shouldnt be a problem haha

Cant open the door ehhh.....half doors or tube doors help fix that and keep you in the truck.

Wish you had got pics of this when it happened.

so much for making money off the scrap metal, now it goes to a window

If you do alot of scrapin, a headache rack would be a good investment

yes, and I had been working on one...most of the scrap I pick up is fairly large so I didn't have a problem with it...but this file cabinet was sitting beside a washing machine over the passenger wheel hump...and it slipped just enough for the point to connect with the window...

normally I pack it in so tight or strap it down...but I was just warming up...lol so I wedged it...hit a pot hole then a raised manhole cover (road was covered in snow so I couldn't see either)...and boop!

Did this with a couch once...

Can't imagine a couch having sharp edges, but anything is possible...especially if the glass is cold...

I got a bit more done on my, ahem, headache rack...believe it or not...and you will laugh...I used an old farm fence gate...cut it in half...mounted it with the open end up to give it more base stability...and attached the original spreader they used on top...

It looks ugly...but it sure can cook!

I'd post pics but my ego won't take too much right now in the ribbing department...lol...aside from that...I didn't even paint the rusty old fence...

One good thing about that...it keeps would be thieves away...:icon_thumby:

Only took three months to replace the construction grade plastic...

Taking the back window out was not as tough as I thought it would be...had 8 nuts on the rubber seal...after taking the trim pieces out and the latches for the pop out windows it was pretty easy...was hoping to salvage the seal but there was way too much work getting the shards of glass out of the sealant they used...

Good news was there was only a tiny section of rust on the whole window edge...

I used four sections of plexiglass that I thought was clear but it was scratched all over the place...still more visibility than the plastic...also had to cut two small wedges for the bottom corners that fit really well...considering I did it with a hacksaw...lol

I did get a price on a full sheet that is clear...only $50...about what I would pay for a replacement window...if I can find one...but the plexiglass will do for now...I'd post pics but not quite finished...have to get some clear silicone sealant to do the panel seams and around the top edge to keep water out...

Otherwise I'm quite happy with the results...only took me four hours or so...mostly due to taking a layer of skin off my finger on the first cut...but wore gloves once the blood flow was stopped...I didn't think the edges would be that sharp...
