so...talk about a rebuild...

Today I managed two flights of stairs using mostly only the handrail and minimal help from a crutch...managed to carry down 2 4Litre jugs of water (it's filtered tap water)...

Chopped a bit of ice from the sidewalk before calling it a day yesterday...one small step for Mark...:yahoo:

Wow. Just read through this. Last year my brother was in. A pretty horrific motorcycle accident and had his left arm amputated at the shoulder as a result. (As well as a lot of re constructive surgery to all the organs on his left side).

I know the "phantom pain" as they call it was pretty intense at first he said, but with in 2 months he was back a work. He has new outlook on life, that's for sure. I am glad to hear all is going well from the sounds of it.

Hope the best for ya man, this hits close to home for sure.

We are trying to figure out how he can still run his race car down the track. (5 speed, 500+ HP FWD). That project of a car has kept him active and determined as ever to show everyone he can still do what he sets his mind too. So if you have anything you were working on/planning...Just keep at it, things take longer, but that just means the success will be more rewarding in the end.

I'm glad to hear your brother recovered nicely and is still active. And thanks for the words of encouragement...as much as I try to act as if nothing happened, I know it's part facade that I make a show of adapting...but the inner spirit is there and the same spirit that got me through so many years of ups and downs is behind what I display...

Nothing ever quite like this has hit me, and it hit pretty hard and unexpectedly...I know your brother is a fighter from what you wrote and I hope he tames his life down a bit so he can see his grandchildren (or yours) grow...

In the 2 1/2 months in the rehab hospital I met many others with amputations (and we had transplants and heart surgery patients) and it's strange, but most of them were so upbeat I was pleasantly surprised. We'd all gather (there were about 7 or 8 of us in the last group) and sit for hours chatting, laughing, and comparing notes...it was absolutely incredible to meet them that I was saddened to leave...but the turnover in those places is pretty high so it had to happen.

I wanted to bring this to light in a way to warn others of the dangers of our "silent killer" vascular systems. Most people won't give it a second thought until it's too late...but hopefully some of you on here take steps to have your system checked...:icon_thumby:

We spend so much time fixing, modding, driving, and playing with our trucks...but hardly give our bodies any attention or some good maintenance checks...:icon_confused: I hope others find this strange and take the time~!
