- to prevent Found On the Road Dead, Fix Or Repair Daily
Unless things happen, I'm goin to take off the right drum. and see if what is making me smell hot gear oil and having a hub too hot to touch. The fix when the exact thing happened on the drivers side was a new left cable. 20 bucks at Auto zone. None at the local, in stock 8 miles away, supposedly. So I called. I'm glad I did. I gave the kid the PN and he looked for a while and couldn't find it. An earlier call, I was told to call back in 10 minutes, they were mobbed. So I did. Computer showed next was 14 miles away, and they had it . So that was good , I saved driving 8 miles south, only to have drive to the Rockland store. I intend to go straight to the cable. and unhook it from the other cable . I'm a cheap sonofagun, so I appreciate how Ford created such a rinky dink rig with spring loaded barbs for an easy push fit assembly. WTF, it lasted 20 yrs, It isnt even worth struggling with to try to free it up. And it makes the removal easier too. Now I can just break off the barbs and pull out the cable. I used a lot of finesse taking the left side out of its little clip. a 12.99 item at the 'Zone. For a crummy piece of folded metal. Oh well, I discovered an issue, and have the fix for short money. This leaves the front cable, the MC, and the rear brake hose as the only original brake parts.
