So ends an era....

Sounds like a hub issue.

You get that on the new fangled stuff.

I wish they would just leave the front end live and give up on automatic locking hubs after decades of mediocre at best results.
Im taking some paperwork back to the dealer today. Im gonna run it by them. I cant imagine its anything bad.

Like i said worse case ill just lock it manually

Does it have to be moving to switch to 4wd?

The old dodge I had wouldn’t even go from 2hi to 4hi if you weren’t moving.

It lit the light on the dash. I tried it again moving and no go. I turned a circle with 0 bind

Should have demanded the dealer install a manual transfer case because you bought it.

I’m sure if you told them you were paying cash they would have jumped.

IIRC the only fullsize truck with a manual t-case is a Tradesman Ram.

Tell that to the 2017 F250 out in front of my house… it won’t believe you.

They are going to "help me out" with fixing the hubs

The old, double the price on the quote and do you a favor by splitting the bill 50/50 with you.

I’m sorry I’m just having too much fun.
Theyve been pretty cool so far.

If it costs me a couple hundred so be it. But if they try to sell me a total front end rebuild or something ill tell them to pound sand

Unless it was sold as-is the dealer should be responsible for fixing it, or at least they would be in NH. We had close to zero trouble with the electronic tranfer case controls but exposure to road salt made the spindle bores rust and the vacuum hubs would not lock. We buffed the spindles with a dingle berry cylinder hone, replaced the seals, and fixed the problem.

i like my 6.2L. I hate my 6spd, dang thing is in 6th before I can crest 20mph.

Seems like a lot of money for pickup truck….
I payed 4500 for ‘11.

Drive it like you're mad at it, they'll almost redline before shifting if you try hard enough

My V10 truck doesn't have a red line or danger zone on the tach so I figure there is absolutely nothing I can do that will hurt it. It won't let me.

It was as is. Lol

Thats why im not expecting a whole lot. They tried to sell me a ford backed warranty but for the extra 100ish a month i figured it wasnt worth it

I guess i dont fully understand what happens inside the hub when the vaccuum goes to it.

The vacuum lines look excellent. Im just wondering if something in there is seized up from non use. Like whatever the vacuum is supposed to accomplish isnt happening because the vacuum isnt strong enough.

The lockouts were seized into the auto position when i test drove it...i had them break them free...maybe i shouldnt have? Maybe something got damaged that way?

I really dont know.

The hub can be locked like a regular hub or when in the auto position vacuum pulls the hub into the locked position when needed. I've looked at (and disassembled) both the regular and auto hubs, the main difference is a diaphragm allowing the auto function when vacuum is applied. The pot metal mounting ring swells and pinches the dial, I've had good luck with disassembling the hubs then sandblasting and painting the mounting ring then reassembling
