So ends an era....

Twin I beams woulda saved you money... you still get them in 2wd F-250/350

2wd 'zilla would have gotten half your list...

Nice minivan. :icon_thumby:
I really, really thought about another 2wd. But decided against it.

This 6.2 has more power then i was figuring. I thought it was gonna feel doggy espicially in the lower revvs...but i was pleasently surprised.

We'll see how it does with a load compared to the old 460. Fuel mileage so far is better anyways...i was getting 15.5 cruising it home.

I can tell you that the 6.2l engines are sluggish when you take a regular cab F450 w/ a 9’ Western plow, an I pack, and a dump body w/ a salt spreader hanging off the back, you load that bed with salt until it’s falling off the sides and those poor 19.5s are screaming for help, the leaf springs are sagging so much that the look like they’re frowning, and then do this to it every snow storm for 9 or more years. (the last time we bought F450s was 2016, as of ‘17 we buy F550’s)

It impresses me more they handled it for 9 years lol.

I dont imagine itll ever hurt for power with anything i plan on doing. Even when we get a camper itll pry be 7-8000lb range.

i looked up the numbers and was pretty impressed especially for torque. 385hp/430ftlb. I thought they were still sub 400on torque.

It also sounds like a V8. Not quite as good as my buddies 16 5.0 150 he just bought, but alot better then i expected.

I could of pry gotten away with a 1/2 ton but if i need to move something heavy (which i do from time to time) i dont like having to question wheather itll do it or not. That was the biggest reason i hung onto the 97 so long.

Its actually a 6.2L :) lol.

I did not want the DPF headaches or spend the money to um....fix it.
Ah, I assumed that 6.2 was a diesel.

When it comes to late model gas engines I'm only vaguely familiar with the OHCs. The early mod motors (4.6 & 5.4) and the Coyote are the only ones I recognize. If it isn't one of those or a Godzilla I haven't paid much attention to it.

Now that I think about it the was the 6.2 what they put in the F-150 Raptor?

I’ve actually been considering cutting up some 351 heads to make a cross-flow head for my 300 when I rebuild my F-150…
Gapp & Roush drag raced a 300 with a head made from 2 cut down Cleveland heads in the 70's.

Yeah, there was a few of those modified motors floating around at one point. I’m not looking to drag race but it would be really nice to wake that thing up a little more and turn it into a real beast

Yes… not the same tune as the “heavy truck” version, but the same basic engine.

6.2's are great engines and they made more power than the 6.8 V10 they replaced.

I’ve seen a few people turbo them. They rev much, so I’d guess you’ll want most your boost right away.

I guess you would want to model you turbo setup like a big I6 diesel. I assume they’re at max boost by 2000rpm.

I've thought about a turbo, it wouldn't be very hard to do, there's plenty of room in the engine bay on these OBS trucks. That may likely happen, lol.

That said, I wonder if I should consider slapping a couple turbos on the ol 460 when I fix the dump truck here... Hmm... I know a junkyard that sells turbos cheap too...

My ‘11 gets about 18/20 mpg empty on 89. Around 45/50 mph, above 55 it quickly drops to 15.

empty or load doesn’t make much difference though.

I picked up 2mpg when I did plugs and coils, but I’ve also go almost 200k miles on it.

87 to 89octane is about 1mpg or so, but runs noticeably smoother with a load on 89oct.

Ok guys i did discover an issue....im sure not major but lemme run it by you guys...

I went to leave work today and where i parked was muddy as shit. I went to back up and i put it in reverse and the tires were spinning...at idle. So i stopped and switched to 4wd and nothing happend.

I managed to get out in 2wd. Then i remembered i have the option to manually lock it in. So i got out, locked the hubs, and switched to 4 and could feel it binding as i turned.

So the 4wd is working...just not automatically.

Any ideas? Guessing a vacuum issue. I know when i got it the lockouts were totally seized...the dealer got them broke free if that helps.

For the 3 times a year ill use it ill just manually lock them but if its simple id like it working.

Sounds like a hub issue.

You get that on the new fangled stuff.

I wish they would just leave the front end live and give up on automatic locking hubs after decades of mediocre at best results.

Does yours have the rear E-locker? The knob for 4x4 will pull out a click to engage it if you do…

Yes it does. That functions evidenced by the 2 holes the rear tires dug before i tried 4wd
