I have an 87 that i may need to pull the heads on...i've read about the later castings for a 2.9....I would guess these are hard to come by used?...or?..

I'm not in the market for a set of "race" heads fpr crazy money just a good replacement set of thicker castings if available...I'm kind new at this sight...am i kidding myself to hunt for a set of these heads?

no, they are available. Just have to know where to look. Personally wouldn't mess with anything but the World Product heads...heavier in all the right places.....but I understand about the $$$

watch Ebay & or CL.
talk to you local salvage yards and parts stores...let them know what your looking for.

If you do get used heads make sure that they have been cleaned and magafluxed,( checked for cracks) and that they are they later style or WP

Depending on where you go you can only get the newer castings. I work for Oreilly Auto Parts (formerly CSK Auto) and we use to go threw a company called American Cylinder Head and I called and asked about the casting problem in the older cylinder head and the guy at there customer service said that they were aware of the problem and when there is a problem with a version of a casting they will not remain that castings so if I was to order heads for my 89/90 2.9L ( first gen casting) that I would receive a set of newer casting cylinder heads.

thanx 4 the comeback....

I appreciate the replies....

I just bought an additional b2, an '87 that supposedly "blew a head gasket"...

it will be an adventure to see what heads it has on it....i bought it 4 parts primarily but it has a great rust-free body...and in time i'm sure i'll see what needs to be done to it....might be lucky...actually it had the water pump fail and lost a lot of water...and he pulled it over to check and saw it streaming out of the pump housing...not sure how hot it got..but i can imagine the worst....

I haven't started it up yet to do my own checks...we'll see

I will compare the cost of replacing the head(s) alongside putting a 2.3L 4 in it...i've been wanting to do that and found a decent buy on a good running 87 2.3 all complete w bell housing and all wiring...so we'll see...

thanx agin 4 the comebacks...

update

I saw this add today.....and ordered (2) heads.......hope they are what they are described as.....

I just found out that someone bought out all these heads...1 person...they refunded my money...too bad

The e-bay auction listed is the last run of the World heads for 2.9's We've talked to the guy (okay, emailed) and when these are sold, world is done with them. the Cinese and Indian castings have grabbed the low end of the market, and it's not profitable for World to produce these any longer
