Snatch strap wear

They would probably fine you if it was new too... recovery straps are not made the same as a ratchet strap.

It looked like a ratchet strap...the kind I've seen in Ontario anyways...but I honestly didn't know there was a difference between recovery and ratchet straps...:icon_confused:

I use the smaller cousins mostly for what I do but have seen them up close and personal...never even priced one out since I know my Ranger couldn't pull itself out of a little pothole let alone try to help someone else...

But that will change...:icon_thumby:

The 'legal' limit for fray, aka industry standard is that if the fray extends into the strap beyond the thickness of the strap it's to be discarded...

That said, I'd use that strap but keep an eye on it and use it for smaller pulls as Bobby said.

My wrecker friend says any fray on his ratchet straps is reason for replacement...but now that I know there is a difference between yanking someone and holding someone (their vehicles, eh) I will pay more attention...now I've just got to go to Canadian Tire to see if they are marked differently...:yahoo: I love shopping!

Different animals for sure Snatch straps are towing gear. They have loops sewn in the ends. Load straps have a steel hook on one end and nothing on the other. They dont work well for pulling stumps :D
