So, my b2 has busted flywheel bolts, as i found out when i removed the starter to check and see if the flywheel was in one peice.

Imagine my surprise when the flywheel is in perfect condition, and i can spin it freely with my finger tips, which tells me the bolts holding it to the crank have snapped.

well, that, or my crank snapped, one of the two.

either way, when i went to remove the transmission i noticed both bolts on the lower drivers side of the bell are missing, and i could only see two on the passenger side.

does anybody have a picture of the bell pattern so i can see how many bolts are up top, and where they are, so i can seperate the transmission from the engine?

I believe there are 6. 2 on top and 2 on each side. I had a broken flexplate on my B2, it came from the bolts backing out of the tranny and snapping the plate.

Surely it didn't sheer off the 6 crank bolts, those flexplates are flimsy anyways.

When u reassemble it, use locktite on the tranny bolts. Its what saved me the second go round. If u need a flexplate let me know, I've got a couple I'll let go cheap.

I want to say there are only 5. 2 on top, to on the sides (not level) and then there is one down low opposite the starter.

I can go grab some pics of my FM145 bell later though. that will be the same pattern.

thanks anyway, but i already have a spare A/T flywheel (i say such because that's how they sold it, apparently flex plates have holes in them) but it looks like the bolts did sheer, i'll know more when my brother gets here and we get the transmission the rest of the way out of the truck.

from what i could tell, there was ZERO up and down/side to side play in it, like the bolts just sheared off and the center hole is riding the pilot bearing when i turn it.

it's entirely possible that it didn't have the full six bolts installed, they kind of half-assed this truck as i'm coming to realize, and they may have already had a broken bolt in the crank flange and just left it without extracting it, only putting 5 or less bolts back in.

honestly wouldn't surprise me.

There is no pilot bearing on an A/T. There is a small protrusion at the front center of the TC though.

i was wrong, it wasn't bolts.

I would change the oil pump seal on the front of the tranny while you have it apart just make sure the TC is slid all the way in the tranny before you put it back together and the output shaft seal can be changed easily also.

Yeah, that's a familiar site. What amazes me is that is also the flexplate for the 4.0.

Locktite the tranny bolts back in. This will prevent this from happening again.

Also, in case u didn't know, once the tranny is in position and u get the side bolts started. The top bolts are easier to get to w extensions and lowering the rear of the tranny. I've got big hands and can't get the top 2 from the top. This is what I've found easiest for me. Unless u have a bodytlift. Just throwing that out there.

Have fun w it.
