Hello as per my last post, (https://tinyurl.com/4f38k386) I have performed a smoke test to test for vacuum leaks by making my own version of a smoke machine from a few videos I found online. I pumped it into the car and found that, while the engine is off, the EGR was emitting a TON of smoke. My question is, is it supposed to do this? Or does this tell me that the EGR is busted and should be replaced? Any advice would be appreciated as I'm still learning how every part of my car works.

I think you have something wrong than. I dont think you should get smoke from anything

@superj I think you misunderstand. I made a smoke machine using a soldering iron and baby oil to put smoke through the system in order to find any potential leaks. When I did I found the EGR was leaking smoke. My question is, should the EGR be leaking air when it's off?

Why do you have all the blue gasket material in the hot zones?

I think it's supposed to open under high vacuum and feed exhaust into the combustion chamber. That would lead me to believe the valve is closed when not running, so no smoke. But this is just an semi-educated guess.

I think I’d eliminate the EGR. 88-92 Rangers and Bronco II with the 2.9 had no EGR, so by blocking it off and swapping to the “newer” computer is a legal “upgrade” even though it eliminates an emissions part. But that’s me…

There shouldn’t be any smoke coming out of the EGR where it bolts on or from the pipe coming off the exhaust manifold. As far as if any smoke should be coming out od the valve into the intake, I’m not sure when it’s supposed to be open and when it’s supposed to be closed.
