smog removal with tfi?

I am looking to remove my smog pump and update my cat, but I am not ready yet to do a duraspark ignition. Thus far the rig runs good except the popping from the exhaust.

My question is can I remove all the components and not have it mess the the stock tfi junk?

Is it the air pump or the thermactor/bypass? there are two valves off the air pump the first is the bypass and the second is the thermactor. The bypass may be your problem check the vacuum hoses are all hooked up correct and check for vacuum at the bypass. There is a silencer on the back of the bypass valve and at an idle the air should be blowing out the silencer and when you give it gas the air goes to the the thermactor and is switched by the computer to go to the cat or the crossover on the back of the heads. I general the bypass is what keeps it from popping when you let off of the gas. pull the hose off and start the motor and see if air blows out of the check valve if so it is bad. If it is running good dont mess with it until your ready to do the duraspark swap. The computer needs the air pump for the oxygen senser it will go waco if you pull the pump. I`m still running the air pump with the duraspark and run the bypass valve on ported vacuum. Hope this helps
