Sluggish starts

I have a 2006 Ford Ranger XLT 2wd 2.3L automatic with a 5T44E (according to the sticky). When I press the pedal to go forward in D, it doesn't really get going quicker until about 2500-3000 RPM.

I'd like to have more response from my transmission setup.

What are some things I could do? Different transmission, torque converter, tune?

I'm not expecting a drag truck from a practically stock truck...just want to bring out all the performance it's capable of.

Sounds like you are starting out in 2nd gear. OD light flashing on the end of shifter? Might be in limp mode.

Nothing is flashing. No lights, no bells.

Sounds like you are starting out in 2nd gear. OD light flashing on the end of shifter? Might be in limp mode.

Oh...and there's a shudder or something sometimes after a bump. It goes away when I let off the gas.

Hey...just wanted to let you know I will check that out as soon as my back gets better. I tweaked it loading lumber.
