sluggish performance

'98 3.0L with 100k, 5 speed manual w/ A/C

for last few weeks the engine idles fine but went accelerating after shifting gears the engine takes a while to respond, it is like it is flooding out. i have to not put my foot into it for a while. also after it "catchs up" it periodically jerks, maybe a misfire? while driving down the road.

i do not want to put a lot of money it fixing it up and am interested in any ideas

Fuel filter, air filter? If it has a MAF clean that. When were wires, plugs done last?

Thanks. by the way i beleive that everything under the hood is original. i had bought the truck for my son when he was 14. he drove it thru high school and college years. now that he is married and had thier first child, it wasn't big enough....so i bought it again. long story short is i am sure he didn't put a whole lot of money into it. a tune up probably wouldn't hurt.

Your problem then is neglect. Maintenance is never eliminated it is only postponed - you'll need to spend some of that money you saved over the years.
