Slow acceleration in my 3.0. Suggestions?

I got a used ranger last summer and it always seemed like it was sluggish and I eventually I discovered the rear left break line was blown and the housing for my breaks cracked and it was just all screwed up. Fixed it and new brakes and now still sluggish (not as bad). Considering maybe new exhaust, swapin out my upper intake, heard sometimes powercables help.... Dont really know though.... I just kinda want to beef it up and make it sound better and perform better. Not much of a mechanic but have been pretty successful at doin the maintanence up till now... Suggestions?

only spend your money on intake and exhaust systems if you want the noise. there are no performance benifits to be had.

ive never heard of a power cable...is it maybe the throttle cable "mod" (fix) your thinking of?

your only cost effective options for more power are: underdrive pulleys, tuner, deeper gearing, roller rockers. after that you start getting into heavy machining work and the like and its just not worth the cost....not when a turbo or v-8 could be put in the truck for cheaper.

That type of acceleration may also be caused by clugged up cathalytic converters also.

not a bad thought about the catalytic converter..... thanks for the advice.... I have considered the underdrive pulleys and deeper gearing. Any suggestions on places to get a cheap underdrive pulley? Not super familiar with the roller rockers...

I have a 92 Ranger 3.0L 5-speed at it is slow as dogsh@#. I have tried a few things such as sparkplugs, air intake system and a "tornado" I just think that the 3.0l just isn't very powerful, I should have gotten one with a 4.0L eng.

so how do I know which ones to choose so many options?? oh and what is a good gear ratio....

4.10s are good options for gears. I have 3.73s now, but will eventually be gettin 4.10s. The 3.0 isn't exactly a powerhouse, but I wouldn't call it extremely sluggish.

You may want to run a code check & see if your computer is cutting out power for some reason. If there was a serious fault your check engine light should be on but as so many have said before .... its good to start at the begining instead of just throwing money @ a problem!

I have 4.10's in my truck. It's not slow by my means, but when I get 32's i will be stepping up to 4.56 to have the same pep it does now. Hopefully a little more. HAHA!

Good stuff... I checked my computer and my EGR sensor wasnt workin right so I replaced it and seems a whole load better.... also swapped out all my fluids which helped alot and now working on getting a air intake and underdrive pulleys....
