Slave trouble

I have a 1992 ranger with a 4.0 5 speed and it was originally and auto that a FM146(unknown year) was swapped in by the P.O.... I am swapping in a M50D from a 94 Explorer...
I am having trouble getting the hydrolic line back into the slave... Is there any special way to get it in?
 
There are a couple different quick connects on different year slave cylinders; they have gold collars or black collars if I remember correctly. Not sure which years are which. If the line and collar don't match they will be too tight to slip together without modification. Someone chime in with what fits what.

Looked it up myself. 92 is black collar and 94 is gold collar, so it looks like the 92 line won"t fit the 94 slave.
