I've got a 97 2.3 2wd ranger and I was wondering if my truck has the French style slave on it so it's complicated to get at it to bleed it or not. I've been having trouble getting into 1st at a stop and have noticed my clutch engages sooner than it use to. Any help would be great.

Do I have to drop the trans to bleed the slave?

The bleeder valve is just above the point where the clutch hose runs through the bellhousing. You do not need to remove the transmission to bleed it.

I'm going to crawl under there today to see what I can see. How sure are you I've been reading a lot and it all seems to say its in the bell housing more info would be great. And if anyone knows of a good diagram it would be nice to see

I googled "ford slave cylinder" and found this picture of an Explorer slave cylinder which will be the same. The tube with the gold on it is where the clutch line connects. The other tube is the bleeder valve.
